The worst thing for all fish keepers is to wake up and see our beloved fish lifeless, unfortunately,

sometimes it happens due to existence of ammonia in the water.

Ammonia can be lethal, let's start it over….. NH3 known as ammonia discharged into water by fish.

This by product (ammonia) should remain close to zeroed at all time.

In nature the ammonia be diluted with massive amount of water, in tank the

problem is more complex.

Ammonia in concentration of 0.1 mg can cause gill irritation, the gills are very sensitive tissue that

ammonia will be "glad" to sit on it.

This irritation called Hyperplasia, this irritation causes to one of the layers of the gills that are

called Lmla, to the condensation of remainder.

This action hardens the substitution of the gases and therefore the fish enters stress

and respiratory distress.

In higher levels of ammonia we will see skin damage, eye problems and irreversible Damage to gills,

all this problems will lead to internal organ damage and to fish death.

The NH3 increasing as much as the temperature and ph ascend. Every change of only one ph level

and the ammonia % will ascend 10 times.

In new tank high levels of ammonia are common and by time passing the water parameter get steady.

If we have high levels of ammonia In established aquarium we need to perform water change

as fast as we can, we can use ammonia adsorb also.

The best way to treat ammonia is by preventing it from the beginning. check your aquarium water with

ammonia test kit on a regular basis.

Few tips:

1- Don't overfeed, uneaten food can rot and ascend ammonia.

2- Make sure that you have right filter for your tank, appropriate filter for your aquarium will help to

keep your tank from problems.

3- Avoid overpopulating your aquarium to prevent difficulty with maintaining water quality.

4- Always use anti chlorine and chloramines in your aquarium, don’t forget that chloramine decomposes

to chlorine and ammonia.
