Fin rot is maybe the common disease in aquarium fish but also easy to treat and to prevent.

This disease caused by several negative types of bacteria (bacterial disease),

in many cases we can see the fin rot disease burst the same time with other disease,

It is not difficult to treat but if you will neglect the treatment it will cost the fish lives and other will infected.

It is also very easy to see the fin rot disease burst especially in her early stages.

The first symptom is when the fish fin edges turn white, afterwards, fins start to fray and the last stage is

mostly when entire fin rot.

The smart move will be to prevent it from the beginning.

fin rot occurs when there is poor water quality, overcrowding in the tank, overfeeding and uneaten food,

high levels of stress can lead to fin rot as well.

By maintaining your tank (changing water, replace media) you can prevent the fin rot disease,

but if the disease burst you should know how to treat it. 

Treatment steps: 

1- Water change.

2- Addition aquarium salt.

3- In hard cases treat with antibiotics. 

 

Before changing water test your aquarium water with your test kits, try to diagnose the problem,

then, it is time to perform change water and vacuum the gravel in order to clean gravel from

any uneaten food and fish excess.

Aquarium salt is another method to treat fin rot in the aquarium, this method should avoid in tanks that

populated with scaleless catfish, scaleless catfish are very sensitive to salt, third method is by

using antibiotics.

There are commercial products which contain antibiotics inside, treat according to manufacture instruction. 

Prevention tips: 

1- Maintain your tank by perform water changes and vacuum gravel at least 1 time a weak.

2- Maintain your filter by changing media when you need to do so.

3- Test your water on weekly bases in order to know your water parameters.

4- Avoid overfeeding.

5- Feed with fresh food and in small amount, store the food in the refrigerator.

6- Avoid overcrowd the tank.

As long as you keep maintaining your tank you will be able to enjoy it and avoid from

disease such as fin rot.
