Mouth Fungus or cotton mouth disease is so called because it looks like a fungus attack of the mouth. 

Fish infected with Mouth Fungus lose their appetite and their movement becomes sluggish. It shows up first

as a gray or white line around the lips and later as short tufts sprouting from the mouth giving the

appearance of fungus. The Mouth Fungus attack fish when water quality is poor and in cases of

inadequate diet.

The disease is highly contagious  

Symptoms:

White spots on mouth, edges of scales and fins

Cottony growth that eats away at the mouth

Fins rots beginning at the edgesFungus often invades the affected skin

Rapid gilling in cases where gills are infected  

Treatment:

Remove carbon during treatment

Change water and vacuum gravel

Add aquarium salt

Treat with copper sulfate or antibiotic if necessary. 

 

The best thing to do is to prevent it from the beginning, you can do it by quarantine new fish for 2-3 weeks,

maintaining high water quality by regular water changes and by not underestimate the value of vacuum your

fish tank gravel. Make sure to provide your fish balanced and suitable diet.
