Nutrition – Live foods are preferred, but they'll take deep-frozen and freeze-dried foods. They might take

dry foods with a lot of coaxing. Alga supplements are necessary for long-term health.

Behavior - Territorial and will defend an area against any fish, especially others of their own species.

As they mature these fish have been known to catch and devour small fish in the aquarium.

Maintenance and care – Requires at least 20 gallons tank. Best kept in brackish water - an SG of

1.003-1.005 should suffice. Estuaries tend to have sandy substrates. Thus, they need lots of plants,

many caves, sandy substrates and some salt in their water. Good filtration is required.

Water Parameters – Temperature: 72°-81°F (20°-26°C), PH: 7.5-8.5

Breeding - Males of this species tend to have larger fins; the females will also display a more light

yellowish coloration. Provide caves or tunnels in the tank for spawning sites. Their eggs are laid on

the roofs of their shelters. The eggs and fry are protected by the parents, especially the male. When

the fry have become free swimming, they can be fed on Infusoria or Rotifers.
