General information – The Lobophyllia Brain Coral is a great coral for

beginners and for professionals as one. This beautiful coral is Large

Polyp Stony (LPS) Coral that can be found in many colors and patterns.

It has outstanding red, tan, orange, brown, yellow, purple, green, blue

and gray colors. 

Common Name - Lobed Brain Coral, Open Brain Coral, Meat Coral,

Flat Brain Coral, Modern Coral, Large Flower Coral, Carpet Brain Coral 

Scientific Name - Lobophyllia hemprichii  

Family - Mussidae 

Origin - South Pacific, Indo-Pacific

Nutrition – In nature this Carnivore coral feed on Zooplankton. Although the Lobophyllia is mostly

 

photosynthetic it will they benefit from frozen foods such as mysis, silverside or Krill from time to time.  

Behavior - Semi-aggressive 

Maintenance and care – Easy to care for, it is recommended to provide this coral plenty of space

 

between it and other corals otherwise it will sting other corals with its extended sweeper tentacles

 

during the night. The Lobophyllia requires Supplements, Calcium, Strontium, Trace elements and Iodine.
