General information - The Orange Sun Coral is a very delicate coral, this coral is labor intensive as it requires having each individual polyp fed daily. They possess no symbiotic algae in their tissues, and so do not need bright light. In their natural habitat, sun corals live upside down at the mouths of underwater caverns, catching the zooplankton that wafts in and out with the currents There are three lookalike species: faulkneri, aurea, and coccinea, all need the same care. With its beautiful bright orange colors the sun corals is a nice addition to any reef tank. There are also white, yellow and black Tubastrea aurea. Family - Dendrophylliidae Origin - Indo-Pacific Nutrition - specific feeding (3-4 times a week) of the individual polyps is required with mysis shrimp/krill, Behavior - Does not bother other corals Maintenance and care – High maintenance coral that requires constant feeding to ensure survival The orange sun coral can be placed into rockwork and prefer to be beneath a ledge where they will be shaded from high light.
