General information – In the last few years the Zoanthids have become one of the most sought after Corals in the hobby. These corals come in many color varieties and many colors combinations, Zoanthids also became very popular due to their being undemanding corals.In nature Zoanthids are often found in high-nitrate areas and consider being tolerant of poor water qualityPeople claim that there are more then 300 species of Zoanthids. In fact, there was a big confusion in the past about their taxonomy. Many of these "Zoanthids" were found to be Palythoa species (which very similar to Zoanthids). Actually there are about 60 species of true Zoanthids. Common Name - button polyps, colonial polyps, colonial anemones, sea mats. Nutrition - They can be offered bits of food, but this is not required as they do feed off light and trap floating foods. Behavior –fast grower corals. Maintenance and care - Zoanthids are undemanding coral.They just need good water flow. Some species of Zoanthids requires strong lighting due to the zooxanthellae present while these without zooxanthellae are less demanding.Place the Zoanthids away from mushroom and other corals if you want them to thrive.
