General information- the clown loach is the most common loach in the hobby and one of the

 

sought after fish in general.

 

The clown loach known to be sensitive to ich Disease but after the fish heals it will be less sensitive

 

even if the disease will burst Again.

 

The clown loach has attractive colors, the fins are bright red with three vertical Bands

 

from the back to the belly.  

 

Common Name - Clown loach. Chromobotia macracanthus ( clown loach)  

 

Scientific Name - Chromobotia macracanthus.

 

Family – Cobitidae. 

 

Origin – Came from Borneo and Sumatra.      

 

Size - Up to 18 inch (50cm), in captivity the clown

 

loach is usually smaller.

 

First discovered - Bleeker, 1852.     

 

Nutrition – Clown loach feeds on meaty food, in captivity they eat almost anything, bloodworms,

 

flake food and pellet food.     

 

Behavior – calm, in nature can reveal some aggression to his own kind, although his calm behavior the

 

Clown loach know how to  Deal with aggressive and large fish and can protect himself.

 

Maintenance and care – this fish will appreciate large tank, some say more than one meter in length,

 

very important to have a soft substrate in their tank due to their habit to sick food on the ground

 

with their barbells, also recommended to decorate the tank with places to hide such as plants and rocks.

 

The clown loach is timid fish that spent most of his day hiding, best recommended to 

 

keep them in schools of 4 and up.  

 

Water Parameters – PH-5-7.5, temperature 24-30c (75-86F) DH- 5-15.       

 

Breeding – unknown, a few keepers mange to breed the clown loach by mistake in captivity,

when they try to do breed them again They failed to succeed.

Another method to breed the Clown loach is by injecting hormones.
