General information – This magnificent catfish comes from the

Amazon River but occurs in many small rivers in South America.

This fish receive its common name from its large dorsal fin that looks

like a sailfin. Its Body and fins covered with large dark spots separated

by light reticulations. The color varies depending on the age, species,

and environment the fish came from.

Plecostomus, Sailfin Plecostomus, Spotted Sailfin Pleco 

Scientific Name - Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps 

Family - Loricariidae 

Origin – Amazon, South America 

Size – Up to 45 - 50 cm (17.72 - 19.69 in)  

First discovered - Kner, 1854

Nutrition – herbivores. The Leopard Pleco is a nocturnal fish so it is highly recommended to feed him at

night. It feeds on algae and on uneaten foods. It is also recommended to feed him with sinking pellets

and sinking wafers. Frozen foods such as krill mysis and blood worms can complete its diet. 

Behavior – Peaceful 

Maintenance and care – The Leopard Pleco is a huge tropical fish that should be kept in a 75 gallons

tank decorated with caves, rocks, and woods as hiding places. It has a tendency to eat some plants so

be aware of that. The Leopard Pleco can be kept in a community tank with medium to large fish,

including peaceful and semi aggressive cichlids. Small fish such as tetras can be eaten by this fish so

it is recommended to avoid it.

Breeding - This fish is a Egg Layer but has not been bred in an aquarium
