 General information – The rummy nose tetra is one of the most popular fish in plant tanks

 all over the world.

 Many fish keepers mixed up between the Hemigrammus rhodostomus to the Petitella Georgia.

 In order to enjoy his grace it should be kept in large schools.

 When the rummy nose tetra is in stress his nose will lose his red color and pale.   Hemigrammus rhodostomus (rummy nose tetra)

     

 Common Name - Rummy nose tetra. 

 Scientific Name - Hemigrammus rhodostomus. 

 Family – Characidae. 

 Origin - South America in the Amazon basin.  

 Size – 5cm (2 inches). 

 First discovered - Ahl, 1924. 

 Nutrition – omnivore, the Rummy nose tetra will accept most food sources pellet, flakes and frozen food. 

 Behavior – peaceful. 

 Maintenance and care– should be kept in minimum 15 gallon tank with other peaceful fish in a well

 planted aquarium with a lot of swimming  area.

 The Rummy nose tetra should be kept in schools of 6 and up,

 the Hemigrammus rhodostomus known to be sensitive to water quality so well filtered water is essential. 

 Water Parameters – PH: 6-7, temperature: 73F-79F (23C-26C), DGH: 4-12. 

 Breeding - Breeding is not very easy. 

 In soft and acid water the eggs are laid and fertilized between fine leaved plants.

 The parent use to eat their own eggs so they should removed from the tank after spawning.

 The eggs hatch after 28-36 hours and fry became free swimming after 4-5 days.
