General information - The Green Terror is an American cichlid often confused with Blue Acara. This beautiful cichlid can be a good addition to any cichlid aquarium. The green terror has a green and blue metallic sheen. The males are more colorful then the females, the males has a shiny red edging on their tail fin, females are less colorful but nobody can say these females are not beautiful.The name, Green Terror, can be deceitful, some keepers say that the name green terror suit to its behavior wile others claim that their green terror is quietly and peaceful. But, with no doubt in breeding time the green terror became very aggressive. Nutrition - will accept commercial food such as flake and pellets, the Green Terror should be fed with live or frozen food such as Mysis, Bloodworms, Krill and Brine shrimps. Behavior – semi aggressive Maintenance and care – The green terror require a tank capacity of 55 gallons with plenty room to swim. As tank mates keep it with other large, aggressive cichlids. Due to its eating habit (messy eater that produces a lot of waste) water changes should perform often and powerful filtration system is essential. Water Parameters – Temperature: 68F-77F (20C-25C), PH: 6.3-7.5, DGH: 4-15 Breeding – have been bred in captivity. Substrate Spawners The female will look for a small cave to lay her eggs. The female can lay up to 400 eggs. These eggs will be fertilized by the male. After the fertilization the male will guard for any predators while the female fans the eggs with her finsThe fry hatch in 3-4 days and are free swimming after 9-12 days. Green Terrors are great parents and after the eggs hatch they both guard the fry.
