General information – The "OB Peacock" is a man made cichlid. Although it is hybrid this astonishing species is very common around the world. The "OB Peacock" will quickly adapt to the aquarium and are easy to care for. Keeping o.b peacocks with other Aulonocara species will cause hybridization. They come in a wide variety of colors and color combinations. Size – Up to 15 cm (6 in) First discovered - Man made Nutrition – Omnivore, this beautiful tropical fish should be fed a variety of prepared flake and pellet foods, live or frozen foods should also be included in their diet. Bloodworms, mysis, mosquito Larvas and brine shrimp are a great addition. Behavior – Semi aggressive Maintenance and care - The "OB Peacock" should be kept in a tank of 50 gallons with rock formation and a number of crevices and caves, open swimming space are essential for this fish. As substrate it is recommended to use coral sand to keep the water alkaline. Hardy, bitter plants (Anubias, Microsorium and Echinodorus) can be used if live plants are desired. Water changes that are frequent also help in keeping this cichlid. Water Parameters - Temperature: 22C - 28C (71.6F - 82.4 F), PH: 8.0 - 8.8, dGH 10 - 18 Breeding – The o.b is mouth brooder. The Preferred spawning site is on a flat stone, the female will take the unfertilized eggs in her mouth and then the eggs will be fertilized after the male release his sperm into her mouth. This process occurs when the female follow the male very close to his anal fin. After 21-28 days the female release her fry to the open water, the fry are big enough and without the yolk.
