General information – the regani is one of the most special fish lives in Tanganica Lake,

It have elongated body with horizontal lines from top to bottom and his unpaired fins are fringed in white.

There are a number of location varieties, Kipili, Zambia / Sumbu, Burundi, Kigoma and Kachese. 

Common Name - Convict Julie Regani.      Julidochromis Regani (convict julie regani)

Scientific Name – Julidochromis Regani. 

Family – Cichlidae. 

Origin – Africa, Lake Tanganica. 

Size - 15cm.  

First discovered - Poll, 1942. 

Nutrition – Omnivore, the regani have preference to meaty food but also feeds on algae found on rocks,

In home tank the regani will accept flake and pellet food, frozen and live food.  

Behavior – semi aggressive, aggressive toward his own kind and to other fish from the Julie group,

known to be a timid fish when larger fish present. 

Maintenance and care – 15 gallon and up, will appreciate water change on a weekly basses,

need sandy substrate and rocks in the tank.   

Water Parameters – Temperature 23-27, PH- 8-9.5. 

Breeding – substrate spawner, ratio of one male to two females is recommended.

The regani laid his 75-100 eggs in a cave, it is very easy to sex between male and female

unlike most cichlids. in this species the female is bigger than the male.

The regani reach sexual maturity approximately 14 - 18 months of age.

The regani are good parent and will take care of their fry.
