General information - Neolamprologus helianthus has beautiful orange-gold colors with protruding "V" marking on the gill plate. In nature, the Sunflower Cichlid found at depths of up to 7 meters in rocky environment. This fish is part of the Brichardi complex. First discovered - Büscher, 1997 Nutrition - Omnivore with tendency towards meaty food. The helianthus will accept dry food (flakes and pellets) but prefers frozen food and live food. Behavior – Aggressive Maintenance and care – The Neolamprologus helianthus should be kept in a species tank or with hardy Tanganyikan fish. The Sunflower Cichlid requires lots of rockwork and caves along with suitable open swimming space. Water Parameters -PH- 7.5-8.5, temperature 24-26, DH- 12-15. Breeding - The Sunflower Cichlid is a cave/ substrate spawner.In order to breed helianthus, breeding tank is essential. The tank should decorate with shells and small caves. The female will enter to one cave and spawn secretly.These eggs will be fertilizing by the male and after hatching the fry will hide in their cave. They can and should be fed with fry food or with hatches brine shrimp.
