General information - Puntius denisonii popularly known as Redline torpedo barb, Denison barb, Redline barb red comet barb in trade parlance and the most wanted fresh water aquarium pet of the Western Ghats of India. Puntius denisonii fondly called “Miss Kerala” by aquarium hobbyists is widely distributed in several rivers of Kerala. Puntius denisonii the beautiful Red Line Torpedo barb, Puntius denisonii, is a relative new kid on the block. In the wild, these fish inhabit fast- flowing freshwater streams and rivers in India. Puntius denisonii has a torpedo shaped body with silver scales, a red line running from the nose, through the eye, back towards the middle of the body, and below the red line, a black line that runs the length of the fish to the tail. The Denisonii belong to barb genus. Nutrition - Omnivore, The Denisonii Barb, like most members of the genus, is not a picky eater and will accept almost any given food. accept flakes, sinking pellets, and small live and frozen foods. Behavior - Peaceful Maintenance and care – The Puntius denisonii prefer a larger tank, 200 liter or up with plenty of swimming space and well planted. They are extremely fast and active and should be kept in schools of 4-6. As tank mates the Puntius denisonii prefer peaceful fish such as barbs, peaceful tetras and rainbow fish. The Puntius denisonii prefer a tank with a decent current, which will highly oxygen water.
