General information - The Harlequin Rasbora is a beautiful and

peaceful schooling fish; this fish is very popular among plant tank

hobbyists due to its magnificent appearance and its calm nature,

although it looks great in planted tanks the Harlequin Rasbora will

make a great addition to any community tank. Rasbora harlequin

has silver to gold metallic colors with a wide black triangular mark

that covers the rear half of the body. Fins usually have Gold/orange

colors.

Origin - Southeast Asia, Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, Thailand 

Size – Up to 5cm 

First discovered – Duncker, 1904 

Nutrition – Omnivore, in the wild the Rasbora harlequin feeds on aquatic invertebrates and small

insects in captivity it will accept almost everything offered, flake food, frozen food and freeze-dried food.

Feeding should be provided at least two times a day. 

Behavior – Peaceful  

Maintenance and care - The Rasbora heteromorpha should be kept in schools of 6 and up. The tanks

should be decorated with plenty of room to swim and hide; plants can be used as shelter too. This

beautiful tropical fish will benefit from soft water. 

Water Parameters - Temperature: 73F- 82F (22C - 25C), pH: 5-7, dGH: 4-12

Breeding –Rasbora harlequin breed in home tanks but the best way to breed this fish successfully is

to set up a breeding tank for them. It will appreciate low ph levels (5.2-5.5) and a temperature of 27c.

Their breeding tank should be decorated with plants and especially with broad leafed plants.

Conditioning the pair should be done separately. Conditioning is made by feeding the fish live or frozen

foods about two times a day, and making frequent water changes. Conditioning should take about two

weeks at least, and can take up to one month, depending on the food quality and water temperature.

The parents should be removed just after spawning. It is highly recommended to keep the aquarium

dark until the eggs hatch (fungus risk). The Harlequin Rasbora can produce over 200 eggs which will

hatch in approximately 24 hours. Feed the fry powdered fry foods, liquid foods or infusoria, after 3-4

days the fry can be feed with Artemia Nauplii, The fry grow quickly and should be fed with high quality

foods, after 2 months they are large enough to accept flakes.
