Males a bit more colorful, females have larger bellies. Common Name - Zebra Danio. Scientific Name - Brachydanio Rerio. Family – Cyprinidae. Origin – India. Size – up to 6 cm (2 inches). First discovered - Hamilton, 1822.
Nutrition – omnivore, accepting almost any foods. Pellets, flakes and frozen food, they will mostly enjoy eating live food. Behavior – peaceful. Maintenance and care- Brachydanio Rerio requires an 80 cm tank minimum and a minimum 10 gallon tank size with a lot of free swimming space. They also should be kept in schools of 4 or more. The Brachydanio rerio will appreciate plant tank in order to find their hiding places and they also need well filtered water. Water Parameters – PH: 6.5-7.5, temperature: 64- 74F, DGH: 5-12. Breeding- The Brachydanio Rerio known to be a prolific fish. The breeding tank should be set up with shallow water (6-8 inches deep). Decorate the breeding tank with spawning grid, plants. Another option is to decorate their tank with marbles, the eggs will fall between the marbles and will be protected from the adult fish, which will readily eat their own eggs.
