General information – The Green Lace Shrimp is an astonishing shrimp resembling the bamboo shrimp but is a lot smaller. It also known as the Green "BIAK" Shrimp or by its scientific name pilipes, it has a unique and interesting feeding behavior, it filters the water column with its fans to catch micro-organisms and other floating foods. The body has green and gold patches which makes it more graceful in a planted species tank. Origin – Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea Size – Male : 4cm- 5cm, Female : 5cm -5.5cm First discovered - Newport, 1847 Nutrition – Although the Green Lace Shrimp filters the water column with its fans to catch micro-organisms and other floating foods it will also use these fans to grab food from the ground. According to some reports the fan shrimp observed feeding on dead fish. Shrimp wafers and fish pellets can complete their diet. Behavior – Peaceful Maintenance and care – It is highly recommended to keep the Green Lace Shrimp in a peaceful community fish tank or in a species tank. It is very sensitive to acclimating so caution is required. The Green Lace Shrimp requires plenty of hiding places such as plants and rocks. Sufficient current is essential for this shrimp otherwise it will have a hard time to filters floating food items from the water. It’s a very good idea to use a current pump or small wave box to keep the water in constant circulation. Water Parameters – Temperature: 24c - 28 C (73F - 82 F), pH 6 – 8, GH: 5-15
