The Acanthuridae family contains the fish that are known as Surgeonfish, Tangs, Unicornfish, and doctorfish. The name "surgeonfish" is derived from their possessing erectable razor sharp spines called 'scalpels' at the base of their bodies just in front of the tail fin.
