General information – The Yellow Eye Kole Tang or by its Scientific Name Ctenochaetus strigosus is a

beautiful addition to any saltwater tank.

As a juvenile the Yellow Eye Kole Tang has an oval body shape with bold markings and with

yellow-gold to tan color combined with striping and spots.

This colors change when it reaches maturity,  When matured, the body color darkens,

ranging from blue to pink or red.  The Yellow Eye Kole Tang inhabits the shallow waters

on the outside of the reef where algae is plentiful.

The Yellow Eye Kole Tang known to be very useful in home tank

due to its Ctenochaetus strigosus (Yellow Eye Kole Tang)appetite to various types of algae.

Scientific Name - Ctenochaetus strigosus 

Family – Acanthuridae 

OriginHawaii, eastern Polynesia, Australia, Micronesia, Melanesia,

 Philippines and  Mauritius. 

Size - up to 6-7 inches 

First discovered - Bennett, 1828 

Nutrition – herbivore, feed mostly by scooping film of unicellular algae and detritus. 

Will accept small sized commercial food, nori algae and other green matter are essential.  

Behavior – peaceful, can be aggressive to other tangs.  

Maintenance and care – A minimum 70 gallon aquarium is necessary to provide plenty of

swimming room and hiding places.

It should not be housed with aggressive species but rather more peaceful fish Water changes on a

monthly basis and well filtered water along with suitable protein Skimmer is essential. 

Water Parameters – temperature: 22C – 27C, PH: 8.1-8.4, specific gravity: 1.019- 1.026 

Breeding - Not currently bred in captivity
