Blenniidae

These small, bottom-dwelling fishes are a

conspicuous element of reef fish

communities. Blennies are characterized

by a combination of an elongate body, lack

of scales, and a continuous, long-based

dorsal fin.The diet of most blennies consists

mainly of algae. Blennies are worldwide family

and well represented in mainly tropical and s

ubtropical seas with 54 genera and

approximately 305 species.

Gobiidae

Currently 212 genera and 1,875 species are recognized, making gobies the largest marine fish family

and the most species-rich family of vertebrates.

The Gobiidae is the marine family with the greatest number of newly described speciesGobies are found

worldwide in fresh, brackish and saltwater.

They are concentrated in the tropics and subtropics, mainly of the Indo-Pacific,

 but some marine species can be found in the subarctic streams of southern Siberia.
