The Chaetodontidae family known also as the Butterflyfish Family

Their vivid coloration and striking patterns make them popular in the aquarium trade, although

some species are difficult to maintain in aquaria.

The family contains 10 genera with 114 species. The Butterflyfish family is comprised of fish

ranging in average size from 4.5 inches to  about 9 inches

They have oval-shaped, deep and greatly compressed bodies These fish occur in all tropical waters,

but the largest number occurs in the tropical western Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Many of these fish members feed on a combination of coelenterate polyps or tentacles,

small invertebrates, fish eggs, and filamentous algae while others are specialists or planktivores.

Most species occur as heterosexual pairs.
