General information – The Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse has beautiful bright neon purple and yellow colors on its body. Its shiny colors along with its characteristics make it very popular cleaner fish. Although it is so attractive the Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse is not recommended for beginners. The Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse is endemic (only found in) to Hawaii. Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse "cleans" other fish, ridding them of parasites. In nature it has cleaning stations for other fish to stop and get their treatment. Family - Labridae Origin - Hawaii Size - Up to 3.5 inches First discovered - Randall, 1958 Nutrition – Carnivore, due to its nutrition habits in nature it is very difficult to get the Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse to eat commercial food but it is possible. After acclimating it will accept flakes and pellets foods on a meaty basis. Behavior - Peaceful Maintenance and care – The Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse is very hard to keep, it requires at least 30 gallon with live rocks as a shelter. A deep (5-6 inch) layer of sand or fine substrate should be provided for them to burrow in. Keeping it with other wrasse species is not recommended in smaller tanks. Good protein skimmer and well oxygenated waters are essential. Water Parameters – Temperature: 72F-78F; pH 8.1-8.4, Specific Gravity: 1.020-1.025 Breeding - Egg Layer, not yet breed in captivity.
